page 2..CHRIS PITHA

It would have been a normal day for the infamous outlaw, Chris Pitha, had it not been for the fact that he was caught stealing the horse belonging to the town's local Preacher (not to mention a few indiscretions with the Preacher's Wife). Sheriff Max Dempsey was determined to string the man up immediately, without a trial, for the blemish brought upon the town. Happenings being as slow as they were, of coarse, admission would be charged to see the hanging. The ideal tree was located on the edge of a cliff. The sheriff asked, "Are there any final words you would like to utter?". Chris replied, "The horse was worth it."

As the neck stretching began, one of the gang's gunmen tried in vain to shoot Chris down. Instead, in his drunkeness, he hit the branch and broke it. As a result of some mathematical miscalculations, Chris fell over the cliff to what appeared to be his finale.
